Overview of the Dashboard
When you open a Finchling project, you’ll land on the dashboard view. This is where you can:- Browse curated PR opportunities
- Filter results based on relevance or creativity
- Monitor trends and competitor activity
- Plan ahead for upcoming PR opportunities
- Access detailed insights for each opportunity
Key Dashboard Sections Explained
1. Left Navigation Sidebar
The sidebar allows you to:- Switch between different projects
- Access your Finchling workspaces
- Create a new project (“Add a Project”)
2. Top Navigation Tabs
At the top of the dashboard, you’ll find:- This week’s trends
Shows the most relevant and recent PR opportunities based on current news cycles. - Competitor Activity
Highlights recent PR campaigns and coverage from your competitors, helping you identify gaps and inspiration. - Project Settings
Lets you update your brand configuration, filters, and alert preferences. - Plan Ahead
Shows upcoming PR opportunities over the next 12 months, allowing you to proactively plan campaigns instead of only reacting to news.
3. Search Bar
Use the search bar to:- Find specific topics, keywords, or trends
- Narrow down opportunities quickly
4. Relevance Filter: “On Brand” or “More Creative”
This slider lets you control how closely opportunities match your brand:- On Brand: Highly relevant, safe, closely aligned opportunities
- More Creative: Broader, more unconventional or reactive angles
- Conservative campaigns: Select stay “On Brand”
- Reactive / viral campaigns: Explore “More Creative”
5. Opportunity Feed
This is the main section of the dashboard. Each item represents a PR opportunity, including:- Headline (e.g., news topic or trend)
- Short explanation of why it matters
- Suggested angle for commentary or content
- Source indicators (where the story is coming from)
- Date (how recent it is)
How to Use the Dashboard Effectively
Step 1: React to What’s Happening Now
Start by reviewing “This week’s trends” to spot timely opportunities. Focus on:- Breaking news
- Emerging trends
- High-impact industry developments
Step 2: Adjust Relevance
Use the On Brand or Creative slider to match your campaign goals.Step 3: Identify High-Potential Stories
Look for opportunities that:- Align with your expertise
- Are gaining traction
- Allow for unique data or commentary
Step 4: Click Into an Opportunity
When you click on a story, you’ll see:- A summary of the story
- Why Finchling flagged it
- Sources
- Suggested PR angles
Step 5: Monitor Competitors
Use the Competitor Activity tab to:- See what others are getting coverage for
- The sources of the coverage
- Why the coverage was flagged
- What can you learn from the coverage
Step 6: Plan What’s Coming Next
Switch to “Plan Ahead” to identify upcoming opportunities over the next 12 months. Look for your brands relevant:- Industry events
- Regulatory changes
- Seasonal trends
- Predictable news moments
- Build your PR calendar
- Prepare data stories in advance
- Align campaigns with key dates
